High Intensity Focused Ultrasound – Ultraformer

HIFU ( high intensity focused ultrasound)  is a medical treatment approved to deliver High Intensity Focused Ultrasound energy below the skin, affecting all the layers of the skin along with SMAS layer of connective tissue covering the muscles, which is the same layer of tissue that surgeons pull tight in a facelift. As thermal energy safely heats this tissue, it contracts, resulting in tightening of the skin and formation of new collagen, which provides a longer-term tightening effect and, by pulling the SMAS layer, a lifting effect at the same time.

What areas can be treated?

The jawline, nasolabial folds, neck folds and general fine lines and wrinkles on the face and droopy eyelids are the most popular treatment areas. The HIFU machine can also be used on the body. The area above the knee, loose arm skin and abdominal skin laxity are also treatable.

What happens after the treatment?

This non-invasive procedure is associated with no downtime, allowing patients to return to daily activities immediately after the treatment.

Is treatment painful?

Most patients tolerate the procedure well without any numbing.

When does the patient see results?

Patients may see some effect almost immediately. True results develop over time as old collagen is replaced by the new collagen. As this collagen regeneration process continues up to 6 months after initial treatment, patients see continuing improvement over time. We recommend 1-2 treatments once a year.

How long does an hifu treatment take?

The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure usually takes 60 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

Minor redness & mild swelling can be experienced. These will disappear within hours. But, most of the time, there is nothing to be seen or felt after the procedure.

How many treatments are needed?

The majority of the patients only need 1-2 treatments. At SMZ , we recommend 2 treatments a year to make a significant impact. Experts agree that dramatic clinical outcomes can be achieved with HIFU and improvements will be visible up to 6 months after the initial procedure. Touch-up treatments could be performed at one-year intervals, depending on the degree of lifting and tightening that needs to be addressed.
